
Instrument rating (ir)
Pilots who pursuing an Instrument Rating pilot license must have logged at least 50 hours of Pilot In Command (PIC) flight time in which 10 hours have been logged in an airplane. A minimum of 40 hours actual or simulated instrument flight time is required of which a minimum of 15 hours must be provided from an authorized instrument rated flight instructor (CFII) and flight training in the listed areas of operation under 14 CFR § 61.65

1 cross country flight in a single engine airplane under actual or simulated instrument conditions that consists of a total straight-line distance of more than 250 nautical miles from the original point of departure, and:

is flown along airways or directed by ATC routing

has an instrument approach at each airport

includes 3 different instrument approaches and
-
has been filed with an IFR flight plan

3 hours of flight training in at least 2 calendar months prior to the practical test
